Brooklyn Daily Union (27 April 1864), 12, apparently from a lost copy ([B]); reprinted in Dandurand, American Literature, 56 (March 1984), 25. A Masque of Poets (1878), 124, from Higginson's copy (D), as three quatrains. ed resisted this appearance in printthe determined effort of Helen Hunt Jackson, who knew of the poem from Higginsonand did not approve the text, which had been altered for publication. Poems (1890), 13, following the fascicle (C), restored all but one of the readings. Poems (1955), 53-54 (A summarized, C principal, D; without [B]); CP (1960), 35 (C).
